A game which shows the strength of the Rybka 3

Here is a game played between Rybka 3 and Rybka 2.2n2. Rybka 3 played with white pieces on a 2.4 G Hz Pentium 4 processor with 512 MB of RAM. Rybka 2.2n2 was on a core 2 duo processor with 2 GB of RAM.

Ka8 62. Kxf3 1/2 - 1/2

Clearly the advantage was there for Rybka 2.2n2 with a much stronger processor and a huge amount of memory.

= Report =

Rybka 3 was able to dominate the proceedings from the beginning itself. Black had no chance of winning the game because of the superior game play of Rybka 3 who never allowed black to bounce back into the game. But as the game progressed towards the end of the middle game, Rybka 2.2n2 was able to analyse deeper because of its hardware superiority. Rybka 3 was actually winning the game but the other engine had a lucky escape.

From the result of the game it is evident that Rybka 3 on a single core CPU is stronger than Rybka 2.2n2 on a dual core system.

Not necessarily... :)
Rybka 2.2n2 had draws with many engines, and generally speaking one cannot draw any "clear" conclusion based on only one game. This should be tested with at least 30 games, alternatively black and white, in order to draw some statistically significant conclusion.
If Rybka 3 was so much better, it would have won... isn't it?

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. I posted that game as an example only. It is already proved beyond doubt that Rybka 3 on a Pentium 4 is stronger or equal to any of its previous versions on a Core 2 Duo system. You may ask Larry Kaufman, one of the developers of Rybka 3. Remember that Rybka 2.2n2 had 4 times the memory I had. I think you will get more such games if you search the net. Just play a game using the two Rybkas in a same machine. You will notice the difference.
Regards,
Anand

Hi Anand,

That's exactly the point, on my machine Rybka 3 performs poorly. It gets beaten almost every time by Rubka 2.2n2...
I'm absolutely convinced that Rybka 3 is improved, I just can't see the real boost in performance on my computer :)

Hi,
I think there is some problem with the engine parameters. Either change or reinstall your Shredder GUI which is known to have some problems with Rybka 3. And also try the other Rybka engines like the Dynamic one. Can you tell me about the default engine parameters set for the engine.
Regards,
Anand
